Element X, an adventure travel company specializing in groundbreaking expeditions, is kicking off "The Coldest Week", an ice bath action for charity. On December 20, founders Koen De Leeuw and Miel Bonduelle invite people to participate in an ice bath action at Kaffee Allez in Ghent. All proceeds will go to The Warmest Week, with this year's theme being loneliness.
Cooling down for a warmer Belgium
During "The Coldest Week", participants can learn about the power of cold and breathing techniques. Under professional guidance, they will be challenged to test their mental resilience in an ice bath.
“The Coldest Week symbolizes resilience and connection,” explains Miel Bonduelle. “It is a physical challenge, but also an opportunity to contribute to a social problem that affects many: loneliness. Together we are making Belgium warmer, even from an icy setting.”
Next to the ice pool, visitors can enjoy hot drinks and a cozy atmosphere while encouraging spectators who gather their courage to dive into the ice pool.
Wilderness guide on national television
While Element X in Ghent challenges participants to push their limits in an ice bath, founder Koen De Leeuw takes that same challenge to the world's most remote places. In “The Expedition: Namibia” soon to be seen on Play4, Koen, ex-para commando and wilderness guide, guides eight famous Flemings, including Nathalie Meskens and Tom Van Dijck, through the world's oldest desert.
“The desert has something magical,” Koen says. “It forces you to let go of everything you don't need and get to the core of yourself. It was a privilege to lead this expedition and see how the participants grew in this extreme environment.”
As in their expeditions worldwide, Element X helps people return physically and mentally stronger through adventure and nature.
